Giant Campus
21st Century Skills and Digital Citizenry - The Core of Giant Campus Curriculum and Programs
Recent research has shown there to be a critical gap between the skills youth need to effectively contribute and compete academically and vocationally, and the skills they are being taught in school. There is a paramount need for an updated pedagogy and relevant skills-based development. While there is more to a complete 21st century education than just focusing on technology, Giant Campus focuses on developing digital citizenry with today’s youth. We believe that to effectively compete and succeed in a global community, youth must move from using technology as gadgetry to seeing and using it as a tool, a means to a greater end. Without a new focus, today’s youth will be critically underprepared to meet the demands of tomorrow’s workforce and market environments.
Giant Campus’ curriculum and programs equip youth with skills in four key areas of digital citizenry, enabling them to better understand the various issues related to technology in the 21st century. In addition to developing technology literacy, Giant Campus also focuses on developing the critical thinking and problem-solving skills of youth. Without this crucial combination – tech and critical thinking skills – youth are not adequately prepared to engage the many opportunities the future holds. We’ve identified the essential four skills for digital citizenry as: 1) Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, 2) Communication and Collaboration, 3) Information Communications Technology (ICT) Literacy, 4) Information Literacy. Each of the digital citizenry skills map to the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) developed by ISTE.
